The Studio at Gulf and Pine is excited to welcome local artist Will Corr with his exhibit entitled A Collection of Recent Works. The Exhibit will run from March 29th through May 7th. There will be an Artist’s Reception on Friday, March 31 from 6-8 PM and an Artist’s Talk on Wed., April 5th from 1-2.
Will Corr’s career has focused on exploring the complex relationship between representation and abstraction. His motif-driven compositions, comprised of natural, social and historical iconography, serve as a framework to investigate this interaction. The automatic process, in which they are executed, combined with the use of traditional and non-traditional materials, allows the work to flow in an abstract manner, yet still follow certain established rules of academic or image-based painting. Oil, sawdust, charcoal and found objects often collide in the works, creating surfaces of linear and textural alchemy.
Born in Birmingham, AL, Will Corr spent his formative years studying visual arts in Virginia Beach, VA. He holds a BA from Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, VA and a Master of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. His works have been included in numerous national venues including: the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, the Portsmouth Visual Arts Center, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, SOFA Chicago, Spectrum Miami, Art San Diego and Art Palm Beach. He is also part of many corporate and private collections including: the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota, Virginia Wesleyan College, Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel, Water Oak Advisors and many more. Currently, he teaches Middle School Art and High School Art Foundations at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. He is also an adjunct instructor of Fine Arts at the State College of Florida in Bradenton, FL and works as an Exhibitions Preparator at the Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, FL.
