Classes at Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum!

Join The Folk School at Florida Maritime Museum in welcoming Betty Ford-Smith to teach Pine Cone Quilting starting on Thursday, February 8th. The first class will be two hours in length from 10 AM to 12 PM. The Pine Cone quilt, also called a Pine Burr Quilt was a traditional southern African American quilt pattern that became popular in the 20th century. The pattern consists of a circular pattern of triangular fabric pointed towards the center. There are a total of three classes for this series. The fee for each class is $35 and includes thread, basic fabric and needles. Students are asked to bring scissors and 3 yards of assorted fabric. PARTICIPATION IN ALL CLASSES IS REQUIRED. A total of $105 is due at the time of registration.

Cuban Cooking Class

In this traditional Cuban cooking class, Marisella Veiga will be teaching students about the history of the dishes she cooks, demonstrate the best techniques to use when cooking the dishes, and will also provide samples for the students! Each student will receive the recipes made by Marisella. Her book, Cuban Rice Classics will be available to purchase at the museum.

The class will be held on Saturday, February 10th from 10 AM – 12 PM. The class fee is $35. Please register by Saturday, February 3rd by visiting https://floridafolkschool.org/
