Cortez Fishing Festival 2010 Celebrates Fishing

February 11, 2010

This year the Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival will be held the weekend of February 20-21. Come for the great live music, nautical arts and crafts, children’s activities, environmental exhibits, and fresh Florida seafood. We will be there offering a variety of fresh Seafood treats, including our ever-popular Soft Shell Crab Sandwich, homemade Ceviche or Key West Style Conch Fritters. Come by our booth for a complimentary VIP Coupon.

Steeped in history, the Village of Cortez is not just one of the last remaining working, fishing villages in Florida - it is an embodiment of “Old Florida”. With its small cottages intermingled with boats, crab pots and fishing gear, Cortez is a historical landmark which hearkens back to a simpler time.

The Commercial Fishing Festival was first held in 1981 as a way to celebrate the Maritime Heritage of Cortez. The event which initially hosted just 500 people has grown into a two-day event hosting over 20,000. The Cortez Fishing Festival is organized by the Florida Institute for Saltwater Heritage (FISH), an organization dedicated to “preserving the character and heritage of Florida’s traditional waterfront communities”.
