As the summer heat starts to retreat, there are still plenty of HOT happenings here on Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key as the Festival sARTee fires up! First, where did the name of the fest come from? The “S” is for Sarasota and the “EE” is for Manatee County and the middle is what combines our two communities – ART.
From October 8 – 24, Manatee and Sarasota will be highlighting the brightest music, theatre and art offerings during sARTee (an extension of the Ringling International Arts Festival).
We’ve chosen some of the event’s highlights so you can get out there and enjoy some of our area’s blazin’ arts. Not only are we lucky to have great art, but we also have those fabulous sunsets– what more can you ask for? Oh wait, we can think of one more thing - great food… right here at the BeachHouse, Sandbar and Mar Vista. So after checking out some of sARTee events, make sure to stop by for a bite and a brew!
Hot Art: CONNEXIONS at Longboat Key Center for the Arts
Opening Reception: October 7 at 5pm

Bring a group of friends to check out some artwork of three hot, young contemporary artists - Joseph Arnegger, Tim Jaeger and Jeff Schwartz. These artists have shown their contemporary art around the world, but have chosen to live and work here in our community. This show demonstrates the connections these painters (and former Ringling classmates) have through their visual storytelling. Stop by Mar Vista afterwards so you and your friends can discuss the show and enjoy some fusion art – Tuna Fusion, that is. Crispy tortillas topped with sushi-grade tuna and “guacasabi” is definitely a work of art!
Hot Exhibit: Here and New: The 2010 Faculty Exhibit of Anna Maria Art League
Opening Reception: October 8, 5:30-7:30pm

Come meet the Art League’s current instructors and see their newest creations which include a wide range of media, techniques and styles. After perusing the art, cruise on down to the BeachHouse and enjoy live music and a beverage out on our deck. If you bring your camera, you might even be able to create some art of your own by getting the perfect shot of a Blue Heron catching his dinner.
Hot Music: 10th Annual BayFest
October 15 5-10pm, October 16 10am-10pm
Pine Ave., Anna Maria
If you like live music, this is a fest you can’t miss! Most of the area’s awesome bands will be playing here including Dr. Dave Band, Bootleg, Human Condition, Firedoor, Island Rockers and the Billy Rice Band. The fest also includes the goods of local artisans at over 100 arts and crafts booths and a classic car show. We suggest ending your day of festival fracas with a frozen margarita, some Fiery Hot Wings at the Sandbar and of course, the best beach view on the Island.
