The Studio at Gulf and Pine is near and dear to our heart here at the Chiles Group. Rhea Chiles has turned the space into a world class cultural art facility that is a huge artistic and educational asset to the residents and visitors of Anna Maria. The Studio’s gallery is now in full-swing and is open to the public from 1-5pm Tuesday through Saturdays where visitors can view the permanent collection. The collection features prominent Florida artists including two of Rhea’s favorites, Lee Baumguard and Penelope Naylor.
This weekend, The Studio is kicking off the “Calling All Turtles” exhibit and silent auction as part of Anna Maria Island’s ArtsHOP happening. Rhea is particularly excited about this exhibit since it was “a call to the community to contribute art in any media inspired by the turtle, Anna Maria Island’s chief preservation project.” The all-things-turtle exhibit will begin on Friday at 1pm with a silent auction where you can bid on (and perhaps win!) a “flippered” piece of art that you can take home and enjoy. The silent auction takes place on Friday from 1-8pm and continues on Saturday starting at 10am, with the winners announced at 4:30pm. On Saturday afternoon, the State Road 64 band will be playing at The Studio’s patio, so “crawl” on by and enjoy some toe-tapping bluegrass while perusing (and bidding on) photos and paintings featuring Florida’s aquatic, egg-laying friends.
In addition to the art gallery, The Studio at Gulf and Pine is also a sponsor of USF’s “Lifelong Learning Academy” offering classes, lectures and other educational opportunities. Make sure to check out the FREE weekly “Einstein Circles” - a moderated discussion group on various topics. On Wednesday, December 2nd, the topic will be “Afghanistan: When Can Our Troops Come Home?” The group meets from 11am-12:30pm. Put it on your calendar and stop on by and share your thoughts about the war.
