Come See Sand-sational Sand Sculptures and Recycled Art at Sandblast 2010!

November 19, 2010

Sand Sculpture by Team SandTasticUnbelievable sand sculptures and ultra-hip recycled art is being created and displayed right on our beach at the BeachHouse Restaurant this weekend! The Sand-sculpting contest begins on Saturday, November 20th at 9am and judging starts at 1pm.

The BeachHouse has sponsored the Sandblast since its inception and since this is the event’s 10th anniversary, we’re really pulling out all the stops. You won’t want to miss this sand-inspired event! Sandblast is a competition where local youth teams participate in a sand sculpture competition and are sponsored by local businesses and organizations.

Teams will be creating sand sculptures in one of the following themes: Holiday, Nautical and Free-form. In addition to the 24 teams competing, there is also a professional sand sculpture team, Sandtastic, who will be creating an 80-ton, eye-popping exhibition piece. Sandtastic started working on their amazing edifice Wednesday, November 17th and will finish up on Saturday. What will they create this year? Come on by to see it in progress! If you want to work on your own sandcastle-building skills, you can attend one of the clinics that Sandtastic will be holding on the 18th and 19th from 5-6pm. You will learn tips and tricks that will amaze your little one next time they ask you to play in the sand with them.

This year, Sandblast will also be celebrating America Recycles Day, with recycled art on display and for sale at the BeachHouse restaurant on Saturday, November 20th from 10am - 3pm. This is a great opportunity to start your holiday shopping (and help the environment) by giving some some cool recycled art gifts this holiday season. Funds raised at Sandblast are donated to the Keep Manatee Beautiful program that encourages environmental improvement and keeps our beaches litter-free. There are still some sand-sculpture teams still needing sponsors, if you want to help keep our community spotless go to www.manateebeautiful.com for more event information and sponsorship opportunities.
