Anna Maria Island and the Sandbar Make DC News

December 7, 2010

Who wants to talk about politics when there’s such a wonderful island to discuss? A Washington DC paper, The Washington Times, ran a very flattering online article about our lovely island and our lovely restaurant, the Sandbar. So, who knows? Anna Maria may become the new hot spot for politicos to come escape the bureaucracy of everyday life. Appearing in the “Life with Lisa” section, author Lisa M. Ruth notes that the most important thing about Anna Maria is that it is “make-your-eyes-hurt beautiful.” That is quite a compliment and we must agree! Other kudos to our island are that it is “post-card perfect,” an “oasis” and has ”extraordinary restaurants,” which includes mentioning, ahem, the Sandbar. The author loved our conch fritters, saying they are “some of the best fritters ever tasted.” She also offers one simple piece of advice, “If the snapper is on the menu: order it. It is local, fresh, recently caught, prepared to enhance the natural sweet taste of the fish, not overwhelm it.” We say, “Nuff said!” The article also offers a lot of island “to do’s” that locals will even enjoy (and maybe even learn something!), so make sure to give it a read.

Just like the author, we enjoy celebrating our island’s ”breathtaking sunsets with cheers and bell-ringing,” so come by the Sandbar to experience it again. As locals know, no sunset is ever alike. With margarita or an ice-cold beer in hand, watch the sun set and appreciate another great reason to live or visit here.
