In Spanish, Mar Vista means “Sea View” and Mar Vista’s patrons will be getting even more of a fabulous sea view when the restaurant adds a second story. So get ready to see an even more breathtaking view of Sarasota Bay from the new deck roof.
It all started when Ed Chiles climbed up on Mar Vista’s roof to see what was up there, and what he found was an amazing view! Chiles told the Longboat Key Observer, “I couldn’t believe it. The view up there was really something.” So instantly, Chiles began thinking about how he could share this beautiful view with the restaurant’s customers. And “up” his thoughts went! Chiles moved forward with plans to add a second story to the restaurant that will blend nicely with the newly added deck below and will also retain the building’s historical charm. The new plan includes replacing 60 or 70 seats downstairs and moving them upstairs to an open air “tree house.” The Longboat Key Planning and Zoning board has approved the expansion plan so patrons will soon be enjoying Mar Vista’s fabulous food with a fabulous, new view! Just picture it now: you sitting amongst the Banyan tree branches, overlooking Sarasota Bay’s turquoise waters. A Blue Heron flies by and lands on Mar Vista’s dock. Could this be more perfect? Yes, it could! You enjoying this view while dining on one of Mar Vista’s Caribbean Chicken Sandwiches and sipping on a Pub Margarita. Now, THAT is perfect.
