New Wedding and Event Assistant Coordinator at the Sandbar Restaurant
Luis was born in Puerto Rico but even from a young age he knew he wanted to travel the world. After graduating from high school at the top of his class he joined the US Army to do just that. Following a short stint in Ft. Steward, Georgia, he was stationed in Hawaii. He served 4 years in the army but decided to stay in Hawaii after leaving the army. It was there that he began to follow his passion for fashion design. He opened his own clothing store, focusing on ladies formalwear. He rubbed elbows with many top fashion designers and politicians. When the Miss Universe pageant was held in Hawaii, Luis was asked to design a gown for one of the contestants. Living in Hawaii allowed him to travel to other exotic locales like Japan and the Philippines. He was also a ballroom dance instructor during his 18 years in Hawaii.
In 1999 Luis moved to Sarasota where he began working in the hospitality industry at the Hyatt banquet department. After learning the ins and outs of that industry, he decided to open his own restaurant in Bradenton featuring authentic Caribbean cuisine. Four years later he decided to simplify his life so he sold the restaurant and went to work at Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant in Longboat Key. When the position of assistant wedding and event coordinator became available at the Sandbar, Mar Vista’s sister restaurant, Luis knew he would be a perfect fit. During his time in Hawaii he coordinated 2 fashion shows a year putting all the details together and producing them. He sees weddings the same way, they are events! The most important event in the couples lives.
As the Sandbar Wedding and Event assistant coordinator he enjoys helping the brides and grooms put all the details together to make their wedding feel effortless and perfect. “Many of the brides have an idea of what they want, they just need someone to help bring it all together, and that is what I do.” Luis still designs formal wear for friends and family but his focus now is on helping the brides create the wedding of their dreams.
