Mar-Vista---Anthony-Cucci---General-ManagerSarasota Manatee Originals Feature, Local Dish author: Abby Weingarten At the quintessential old Florida hideaway known as The Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub, magic is in the ambiance and local seafood is on the menu. One of few places in the area to boast its own private dock, the restaurant gives patrons the “dock and dine” option; boaters can look for ICW Mile Marker #39 to guide them straight from the water to the 1912-built Longboat Key locale. General manager Anthony Cucci welcomes regulars and visitors as they gather inside the historic dining room (where they can tack dollar bills onto the wall to commemorate their visit), outside on the covered deck, and by the water under the majestic Buttonwood trees that glimmer with twinkle lights at night. “It’s the laid-back, old Florida feel that our guests count on over and over again,” Cucci says. “It’s perfect for special occasions or just to relax and unwind.” The menu brims with sustainable seafood—a testament to the vision of restaurateur Ed Chiles, who is a champion of the locavore movement. Chiles is the man behind the Chiles Restaurant Group, which also includes the Sandbar Restaurant in Anna Maria and the Beach House Restaurant on Bradenton Beach, both situated on beautiful Anna Maria Island. Mar Vista menu favorites include the Red Curry Chilean Sea Bass; Caribbean Grouper, Gulf Shrimp and Cortez Bottarga and Crab Steamer Pots. The Daily Features menus have an array of rotating sustainable options including such unique items like Punta Gorda Wild Boar and New Zealand’s Mount Cook King Salmon. “Look for renovations to start in the fall that will add a raw bar and elevated seating, allowing for an even better view of Sarasota Bay,” Cucci says.
