A Culinary and Cultural Event to Benefit Local Charities
Pine Avenue in the City of Anna Maria will be the site of the 6th Annual Food and Wine on Pine event Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 11:30 am – 6:30 pm. This event will showcase the best food, wine, art and music the area has to offer. Attendees will experience an upscale art and culinary event showcasing fresh, local and seasonal Florida foods provided by 25 of the areas locally owned and independent restaurants. The food creations will be complimented by more than 30 wines and a variety of craft beers. The way the vendors are positioned at the event makes it one of the most unique events our area offers and a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
In addition to the variety of unique food, craft beers and array of wines, various art attractions are planned including a juried art show with over 30 local fine artists representing a variety of mediums such as watercolor, metalwork, fused glass, pottery, gyotaku, and jewelry. A student art exhibit is also planned. Because history is an integral part of Anna Maria, actors will be dressed in period costumes telling tales of Anna Maria’s storied past. In addition, there will be over 30 unique musical acts covering pretty much every genre of music through the ages. The event is family friendly with a children’s art and activity area that encourages children to tap into their inner artist by creating an art project or helping to paint the Tom Sawyer fence.
The event is styled in such a way that numerous vignettes will be positioned all along Pine Avenue from Gulf Drive to the historic Roser Church, with plenty of seating to take in the various performances and entertainment. The vignettes will be combinations of the various vendors. Event attendees may find a musician next to an artist and at another location a restaurant may be paired with a winery and a musician. Mini stages as well as the porches of Pine Avenue buildings, street corners and the avenue’s nooks and crannies will house the various vendors positioned to give the feel of a meandering stroll down one of the most historic streets in Anna Maria. Event chair, Caryn Hodge remarks, “It is reminiscent of how the early visitors arrived by steamship from Tampa and other areas to promenade down Pine Avenue to the bathhouse which is now the site of the Sandbar Restaurant.”
Because the event falls on the same day as the Kentucky Derby the event will have a special tent dubbed “Pine Avenue Downs”, which will televise the races and offer chance “betting” with prizes and themed derby activities including derby drinks, a hat contest, and tons of derby fun. There will also be raffles for fabulous gift baskets.
The event is expected to draw upwards of 8,000 people interested in experiencing this upscale culinary and cultural event. There is a $5.00 entry fee with children under 12 free. Tickets for food and beverages are $1.00 each. Most food items will be priced between 2-8 tickets. Event parking at the Anna Maria Island Community Center and at Crosspointe Fellowship church is free with free trolley rides to Pine Avenue. Event proceeds will go to benefit local art and culture non-profits, many of which help local youth realize their dreams in the arts and culture industries. Beneficiaries include the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra, Anna Maria Island Community Center, Cultural Connection, the Artists Guild of Anna Maria, the Historical Society of Anna Maria, American Cancer Society and the Anna Maria Island Preservation Trust. Information on the event and on sponsorship opportunities can be obtained by contacting Caryn Hodge at 941-778-8705 or [email protected]. Rain Date Sunday, May 8th.
